Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, Sir K. Dwight Venner presented a review of the economy of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) in 2010 on Thursday, 20 January 2011 at 8 p.m. on radio and television stations throughout the ECCU. The presentation focused on the following areas:
The factors that impacted the recent performance of the ECCU economies
The unprecedented global financial and economic crisis
The structure of the region’s economies
Initiatives that have been undertaken to strengthen the fiscal and financial stability in the ECCU.
The progress of the ECCU’s formal and collective response to the global economic and financial crisis:
OECS Economic Union o ECCU Eight Point Stabilisation and Growth Programme
Factors that are critical to sustainable growth and economic transformation within the ECCU.
The way forward for the region


Immediately following the presentation, a cross-section of residents from the eight ECCU member countries, linked through the use of video-conferencing technology, engaged the Governor in discussions on the issues arising from the presentation. A series of post presentation discussion programmes will be hosted on radio and television stations in the various countries to give members of the wider public the opportunity to voice their views on the issues that would have emerged from the presentation as well as matters pertaining to their well-being and the overall economic development of the ECCU.
