IMF’s Surveillance Report On The Currency Union

On 28 April 2005,The Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Sir K Dwight Venner, and Ms Ratna Sahay, Assistant Director of the Western Hemisphere Department of the International Monetary Fund hosted a press conference to discuss the IMF’s surveillance report on the currency union, with journalists from the ECCU area.

Governor Venner said the IMF assessment was intended to “put in perspective where we stand in the kaleidoscope of economic arrangements in the region and internationally. He stressed the importance of economic information, and implored the media representatives to convey the information in an objective and substantial manner, which would enlighten the public and allow for public discussion of these important issues.

In presenting the review, Ms Sahay discussed recent economic developments and the challenges and prospects for the ECCU economy. Statement by IMF Staff Mission on the 2005 ECCU Regional Discussions (IMF Website)

The Governor and Assistant Director fielded questions from the journalists located in the ECCB offices in the eight ECCU countries, and linked by video-conferencing technology.
